David Beeman, or Dave as he likes to be called, is a classical piano teacher with more than twenty years’ experience. He began studying piano in Madison, Wisconsin, at age seven. Five years later, Maria Syllm, a celebrated pianist from Hamburg, Germany, became his teacher, and she remained his mentor and primary influence for the next sixteen years. Dave graduated from Grinnell College, in Iowa (BA in mathematics), during which time he studied with Nathan Schwartz, an American pianist and member of the Francesco Trio. After college Dave returned to Madison to continue studies with Ms. Syllm. Upon her death in 1980, he took on her studio and her students.
In 1982 Dave moved to California, working as a software engineer and continuing piano studies with Lyn Bronson, a performer and teacher on the Monterey Peninsula. In 2007, Dave retired from software engineering to open a piano studio in his home in Seattle, Washington. His studio has two pianos (Steinway and Kawai) to allow for concerti. In addition to maintaining a full studio, Dave provides four reduced-rate lessons each week at the Jefferson Community Center, reaching out to students who otherwise could not study piano.
Outside of piano, Dave is an avid soccer fan and still roots for the Green Bay Packers. He and his wife Gail have three grown sons, and they get their exercise (and social life) walking Mischa, their friendly border collie-retriever.
